The Wireless Planning and Coordination wing of India's Department of Telecommunications issues approval of radio devices operating in unlicensed frequency bands. Generally approval is based on review of foreign standard test reports and approval certificates. Radio devices operating in licensed frequency bands require a separate set of licenses which are being covered under WPC.
WPC applicant need to get the ETA (Equipment Type Approval) first before getting the imports. The applicants applying for import licenses in delicensed frequency bands should first obtain ETA from RLOs WPC wing.
ETA – brief description:
All Equipments/devices which work in the de-licensed frequency bands, shall be type approved and designed and constructed in such a manner that the bandwidth of emission, power and other parameters shall conform to the limits specified various notifications in this regard.
